A year ago, I was look out of a large window in my house. I stared off mindlessly into the distance, toward the dry beige field of tall grass. Once I was done wondering about whatever I was thinking about, I took at better look at what I was facing. In the distance, I was able to see a blackened mountain. “Hm, that's weird I thought, that wasn’t there before”. Once I went onto California’s active and past fires website, I saw that there was indeed a large wildfire a moderate distance from my home. I don’t know if it was a controlled burn or a wildfire, but it got me thinking…what if we could predict and prevent these risks before disaster strikes?  That’s why I developed SparkAvert—an app that provides personalized wildfire risk analysis to help homeowners take action before disaster strikes.
